IPMS/Northern Virginia Modelers is a chartered chapter of the International Plastic Modelers' Society (IPMS) --
USA Branch. The chapter, which has been in existence for more than 10 years, was the
Chapter of the Year for IPMS Region 2 in 1990 and 1997, and for all of IPMS/USA for 1990.
The chapter boasts a membership of more than 100 modelers. A typical meeting is
attended by 75-80 people. Membership in IPMS/USA is not required to attend meetings, but
is encouraged. The goal of our club is to have FUN modeling!
Monthly
meetings feature a contest with categories for models by juniors (under 18), cars,
aircraft, military vehicles, figures, space and science fiction, miscellaneous subjects,
and a special contest category which changes each month. Winners are determined by
popular ballot. Meetings also feature a speaker, slide program, or technique
demonstrations of interest to our members. We've even had precision bombing contests and a
carrier landing contest.
We meet the first Wednesday of every month (unless it falls on a holiday) in the
multi-purpose room of Fairfax High School in Fairfax, Virginia. Numerous vendors are
present at each meeting and usually have their wares for sale beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Meetings normally begin at 7:30 and are concluded by 10:00. You're also welcome to join
several of us at Ruby Tuesday's to talk models (and stuff your face) after the meeting is
over.
